Walt Disney World 2004

Me, Dad & Chris with Mickey in Animal Kingdom 2004
This is Me, Dad & Chris with Mickey in Animal Kingdom 2004.

I have a place a Francis House Children's Hospice and during one stay there Mum & Dad met the Mum & Dad of another little girl who told them about a charity called The Wishes And Dreams Trust. They had some involvement with the trust and asked if they could pass on our phone number to them as they may be able to do something for me.

We left the hospice on Friday and they left on Saturday. On Sunday we got a phone call from Jack the chairman of the Trust. He told us he had heard about Lucy and wanted to do something if he could. He asked Mum to tell him about me. When she had finished he said I'm sure we can do something. What would you like? Mum was shocked. She asked what could we have? Jack told her that he could arrange for me to go to Lapland to meet Santa, I don't really like Santa much so that was no use. He said we could go see Mickey Mouse at any of his houses. Walt Disney World in Florida is the obvious choice but how would I get there? Jack said it was not a problem as he had done it before and that he would book us to fly with Virgin Atlantic who have a special chair for disabled kids. Mum & Dad wanted to know some more first so they asked if they could call Jack back. No problem.

Dad is a bit of an internet fiend and soon found all the information they needed. The chair that Virgin use looked fine and they seemed to be able to arrange most anything I would need.
So it was Walt Disney World.

20th August 2004.

We had to be at the airport at 7.30am. We were all up early, the taxi arrived, we had booked a wheelchair friendly munibus. We got to the airport and found that check in was packed. The baggage system had broken down. We got checked in and went for a sit down where Mum & Dad could get a cuppa. Going through the security control was quite interesting with me in my wheelchair and I had all my feed on the tray under my chair.Me in the Virgin Special seat. I got my own TV too

Just before boarding I needed the loo, Mum & Dad changed me and when we got back there were some guys waiting to take us to the plane on a special "Ambulift" it was a big truck that lifted me right up to the door of the Virgin 747 Jumbo Jet. Dad had to carry me to my seat as my chair would not fit down the isle of the plane. The guys that took us to the plane took my chair to be put in the hold of the plane. They asked Dad how it came apart and Dad told them, but they decided that it was a bit complicated and would leave it in one piece.

The flight was great really exciting I loved every minute of it. especially the landing when I giggled very loudly.

We had a 3 hour delay before takeoff due to the baggage system faliure.

We landed in Florida at Orlando International Airport.
We got off and I got my chair with no problems. Got the train to the terminal building, that's right the train. Orlando airport is big.
We got our bags and found our Virgin rep who told us which bus we had to get on. We didn't have a car as I need a wheelchair friendly car and that is very expensive. We soon found that all the buses in Florida were wheelchair friendly.
We got to our hotel and checked in. When we got to our room we were all pooped so we had a lie down.

In the morning we were all up very early as we were still on UK time. All except Mum who managed to go back to sleep. We decided to go to The Magic Kingdom on the first day. We set off to find the Disney Bus stop. I got special treatment on all of the Disney Buses and I was even made an honorary bus driver. I loved the bus. I giggled all the way everytime I went anywhere on the bus.

We got to MK and went in through the exit, the security guard told us to go to City Hall and ask for a Guest Special Assistance Pass. Me & Chris with Minnie MouseI got this pass with no problem but I must say I never had to use it.
On the first day we saw some but not all of Magic Kingdom. We saw the Castle and Tomorrow Land. Chris had a go on the Tomorrow Land Indy Speedway. Then we went to Mickey's Toon Town Fair, where I met Goofy and Minnie Mouse.

As you can see I went for the sensible shoes option...haha.
Minnie and all of the other characters were very nice to me.
I met loads of the characters you can see more pictures in the Photo section of the site.

We were at Disney World at really the hottest time of the year, but to make matters worse the level of humidity in Florida is REALLY high. Mum and Dad decided that I needed some extra water with my feeds and they had to find a way to keep it cool for longer.

We has a fridge in our room which was specially for me. The bottled water at Disney was a bit on the expensive side $2.50 for a 20ounce bottle. So after we had bought a few the first day Mum & Dad decided that if we put a couple in the freezer compartment of the fridge and then keep them in the coolbag with my feeds then it would work. They also kept some frozen water for them to drink later as it melted, which didn't take too long in Florida.

The second day we went back to Magic Kingdom, we really had only just scratched the surface the day before.
That's Mum, Chris & Me with Cinderella's Castle in the background.

Best place for them if you ask me!

That's Chris & Dad in the Stocks in Fantasy Land in Magic Kingdom & don't they look happy to be there. Now Where did I put those rotten Tomatoes?

We went to see a 3D movie show Mickeys Philharmagic which was based on the Disney Film Fantasia today. You were supposed to wear some special 3D glasses. Yeah Right! Not A Chance! I wouldn't keep them on so Mum & Dad thought that I would not enjoy it and that I wouldn't be able to get any benefit from it. WRONG!!! I loved it! The music was loud and Disney being magic it was not only pictures and sound, you got wind as someone flew over your head and loads of other neat stuff.

Think Donald needs to work on his flying.

This is Donald Duck in the shop outside

Buzz Who??

Dad and I met Buzz Lightyear. As you can see I'm not all that impressed.
To be fair I had just had my dinner and in this heat you just have to have a kip after a big dinner.

But this pic should make Kane my cousin jealous he loves Buzz.

Yes it rains in Florida

It rains a lot!

almost every afternoon at around the same time it rains cat's & dogs for half an hour or so. It only does this in the summer but it does cool things down.

Animal Kingdom

Next day we went to Animal Kingdom. Bet you can't guess what the theme of that park is?

Animals right?

Yes Animals.

OK Animal kingdom is themed in different countries like Asia, Africa etc.

Here Dad & Chris went on "The Killimanjaro Rapids" sounds good eh? Well not really they were both a bit disappointed. The ride is basically a big inner tube with a boat in the middle you float round a river and over some rapids. The rapids were a bit tame and the ride was over very quick. They qued up for ages. From mine & Mum's point of view the ride was Ok but they did not get nearly wet enough. hehe.

Isn't my Mum brave?

OK so the Tiger was plastic.

This is the sign where the tiger in the picture on the right was taken.

We saw a live show called
The Spectacle Of The Lion King

This show was absolutely fantastic. It had music, acrobats, Dancers and all of my favourite things. I loved it.

Mum & Dad agreed that it was a really good show.
